2013 Raider Tennis Season Ends
The Habersham Raider Tennis season came to a close this week at the 7-6A Region Tennis Tournament starting at home on April 15th and finishing up at Hamilton Mill Courts, in Dacula April 16-17th. The boys and girls made quick work of Meadow Creek at home Monday with a 3-0 win, qualifying The Raiders for the Region Tournament ranked #8.
The boys faced a stacked Mill Creek team ranked #1 in the region, on April 16th that wrapped up in a quick 3-0 score. #1 Austin Miller made the Mill Creek player earn his points and had his serve working very well. Ultimately the Mill Creek #1 was too powerful. #1 Doubles team of John Mitchell Benton & Alex McEntyre played a tough match, giving it their all. #2 Singles Payton Cain did not finish his match as the #2 Doubles team of Avery and Sam Williams ran into a buzz saw giving Mill Creek their 3rd and victorious point. Mill Creek lost to Peachtree Ridge in the Region final.
The girls faced off with the # 1 Girls seed Peachtree Ridge on Wednesday April 17th. Kadie Hudgins played #1 Abby Owens, ranked in the top 5 for Georgia and top 15 in the Southeast. Kadie hung on in points tenaciously, rarely giving up aces and making each point go to at least 6 strokes. The future LSU player proved too much for Kadie, as the rest of the matches went quickly with #1 Doubles Emily Mayo & Ashton Tuck dropping the 2nd point to Peachtree Ridge. In a bit of gamesmanship Peachtree Ridge did not play their #2 Singles player against our Taiya Harris instead moving up their #3 singles to play at #2. Taiya was able to get a game in the 2nd set, but this closed out the contest giving Peachtree ridge the 3-0 match win. They then matched up against the Mill Creek girls with a fresh #2 seed and ultimately won the 7 AAAAAA Region Title.
For Seniors Kadie Hudgins and Payton Cain it was a tough way to end a High School Tennis career, but they both proved to be team leaders during a very tough season in what is arguably the best Tennis Region in the state of Georgia. For our wonderful exchange layer Tammy Kasabkojian from Brazil, it was a crash course intro to American High School Tennis. All will be missed next year.
Please congratulate the Raider tennis players when you see them.
The Boys and Girls Raider Tennis record for 2013 season was 4 wins and 9 losses. Both were 1-8 in Region play and 1-1 Post Season Play.
Thank you to all parents and teachers that supported our players during the season making them not just successful Athletes, but more importantly, successful young men and women.
